On the 12th of August, 2011, Valley View Senior boys Basketball team went to Wayville for the State Basketball Championship. The school involved were John Pirie, Victor Harbour, Balaklava, Roxby Downs and Valley View. On the day the Roxby Downs team didn’t show up to play so they forfeit and there was only five teams left.

The Valley View starting five for the first round game against Victor Harbour were Brody Cobbing who played as the power forward, Aidan Burt played as point guard, Ryan Pace as their small forward, Michael Raegar played centre and Mitchell Cobbing played as a shooting guard. In the game Mitchell scored over 20 points, hitting four 3 pointers. The game was 40 minutes long with 20 minutes half. The teams played the first half and Valley View was leading. The first round game finished. Valley View came on top and won the game by 13 points with Brody Cobbing scoring 30 points and was the player of the game.

The second round the Valley View had the same starting five and were playing against the Le Fevre, the second best team in the competition. The game started and Le Fevre won the tip off. The Valley View went on a 10 point run in the second half, but Le Fevre came back and the score was even. The game was close but the Valley View came on top and won the game by 18 points with Mitchell Cobbing scoring the most points in the game. Valley View went undefeated all day and went in the finals with Balaklava.

Balaklava and Valley View prepared as they were about to play for the State championship. The Balaklava only had to score over 40 points to win and it didn’t matter if they won the game to take out the state championship. The referee blew the whistle for the first half and the Valley View won the tip off and had the first possession of the game. They scored the first eights points but Balaklava came back to even the score. The Balaklava played well in the first quarter but Valley View took the lead by five points. With two minutes left in the first half, Balaklava took a timeout and the teams went for a one minute water break.  The first half then finishes with the score close.

The second half then started with Balaklava with the ball possession, and they scored two points. Valley View then took off and started going on a 20 to 5 run, Ryan Pace then started scoring well with Michael Raegar dunking to put the Valley View up by 20 points. Then the game finished with Valley View winning the state final game by 26 points and became the back to back champions.
